UPDATE 5/2/19: MIY Workshop is on the move! Find out more here.
I opened MIY Workshop in January 2012 after teaching my own independent sewing classes for adults for over a year. I have been teaching dressmaking, pattern cutting and textiles at various colleges and adult education centres throughout Brighton since 2007. I have a degree in Fashion Design, an MA in Design and am a fully qualified teacher.
Before teaching, I worked as a designer and product developer in the fashion industry for 7 years.
I am a regular contributor to Love Sewing magazine and my first two books were published in 2014: “My Fashion Label” a book about fashion design for kids and “The Beginner’s Guide to Dressmaking” a hands-on dressmaking book for adults containing 6 projects, 14 key dressmaking techniques and full-size pull-out patterns. My second dressmaking book for adults “A Beginner’s Guide to Making Skirts” with 24 skirt patterns covering 10 sizes was published by Cico in November 2016. My third book “A Beginner’s Guide to Sewing With Knitted Fabrics” was published by Cico in January 2018 and sold out the day after! I’m currently writing book 4 which will be available in January 2020.
I write about sewing (including tips and tutorials), the fashion and craft industries and other related subjects over on my main blog.

Thanks for getting in touch. I left Brighton back in March and am now based in Sheffield. If your daughter is based near Sheffield get her to drop me an email on miyworkshop@gmail.com and we’ll try and organise a time!
